The Harmonious Singers
Multi-aged activities encourage and stimulate family and community growth. The old and the young both benefit when activities are inclusive of all ages.
A dream of mine is to gather many families together...kids, parents and grandparents...to sing with each other in family, and inter-family, community.
The goal of the dream is to encourage family growth by developing musical bridges between generations that increase listening, attending and co-operation skills. Through singing and moving together we are forging stronger relationships and building community.
I tried turn to the dream into a reality for a while under the name of the Harmonious Singers. Unfortunately it was an unfamiliar concept to most people and I was never able to attract enough week to week participants at any one time to make it viable.
I directed two separate sessions of the Harmonious Singers:
"Child Centred ~ Adults Welcome" (afternoons) featuring:
Child and Family friendly singing, musical games, body percussion, instruments & story play.
"Youth & Adult Centred ~ Children Welcome" (evenings) featuring:
Inter-generational & multi-cultural program of chants, rounds, show tunes & songs sung in unison or harmony.
It is still a dream that I would like to make a reality.
If it is a dream that you would like to share in please call me at 250-385-SING (7464) so that I can add you to my Harmonious Singers Notification list. When enough people and families have expressed interest in either of these two programs I will happily consider scheduling a trial session to see if there is enough interest to then schedule a season of singing.
If there is then...
Together we will create both
family and community harmony
and have a lot of fun doing so!

Remember to sing
When you sing with a group of people, you learn how to subsume yourself into a group consciousness because a capella singing is all about the immersion of the self into the community. That's one of the great feelings - to stop being me for a little while and to become us. That way lies empathy, the great social virtue.
